This year, more than two million
Americans will have some sort of
plastic surgery procedure, and,
of that number, approximately
30% will be men. Over the last
decade, it has become more
socially acceptable for men to
want a more natural-appearing
nose, a sleeker waistline or a
rejuvenated face, not only for
vanity reasons, but also to be
more competitive in the work
environment.
RHINOPLASTY
The classical nose job ranks first among
adolescent males and young adults. This
procedure can reduce an unsightly bump,
correct breathing problems and bring an
awkward nose into better balance with the
rest of the face. Dr. LeTard
performs the
procedure through nostrils so you don't have
visible scars on the nose. The procedure is
performed in our AAA Certified Surgery
Suite.
FACIAL REJUVENATION
For men in the 4th through the 6th
decade, blepharoplasty (upper and lower
eyelid tucks), neck liposuction, face and
brow lifts, Botox injections are common.
These procedures, when performed
incrementally, allow men to maintain a
fresh, youthful look well into their 60s
and 70s.
LIPOSUCTION
The ideal male body is triangular in
shape, with broad-based shoulders, a trim
waistline and contoured, sculpted muscle
masses. With age, fatty pockets tend to
accumulate in the hip area (love handles),
bdomen, breasts and neck. These
areas of fat deposits are
testosterone-sensitive and often do not
respond to diet or exercise.
Liposuction alone is often effective in
recontouring a more masculine physique and
removing unwanted fat. The areas to be
suctioned are injected with fluid, then tiny stab incisions
are placed in discrete creases and are used
to introduce a small-bore, hollow cannula
(tube) that aspirates fat through a vacuum
suction pump.
GYNECOMASTIA
This form of male breast
enlargement affects 40-60% of
men. We do more young men than
older ones, even teenagers. Fatty deposits
tend to collect in the breast
areas. In some individuals,
glandular excesses of breast
tissue may occur from
adolescence. In rare instances,
certain drugs or hormonal
conditions may influence the
onset of gynecomastia, but, in
the vast majority of cases,
there are no known causes.
In more limited cases,
liposuction alone is effective
in removing excess fat and
recontouring the chest wall.
Tiny stab incisions of less than
1/4 of an inch in length are
placed and hidden in the
armpit. Fat is aspirated through
a hollow tube (cannula) attached
to a suction vacuum pump. The
elastic breast skin will then
redrape the newly contoured
chest wall. |
